LearnLong Institute-Center on Learning Cities (CLC) advances national and international scholarship on the topic of learning cities and regions. Learning cities, especially in the American context, describes citizens as lifelong learners becoming further connected and engaged to their neighborhood, community, and locality through education and learning opportunities (Scott 2015; Learning Cities for Adult Learners). Such opportunities have been supported by local municipalities through programs, policies, and initiatives for the public, including public libraries, home ownership programs, military veterans’ services, and support for retired and elderly communities. This Center’s purpose is to explore education and learning opportunities at the local city level and provide information and ideas to the larger public about improving their education, learning, and the overall quality of life.
CLC invites scholars and researchers in the broader scope of education and learning. Individuals interested in educational policy and programs are welcomed to conduct research and publish reports on policy implementations at all levels of education, especially in adult and continuing education regarding topics such as community colleges, higher education institutions, and faculty development. Other topics of interests in elementary and secondary education include gifted education, after-school programs, and diverse teacher development.
CLC is also interested in connecting research on an international scale with existing network organizations such as UNESCO and PASCAL and other contributions to learning cities research from cities/regions in Asia, Africa, Australia, Mexico, Canada, and Europe. Our goal is to recognize and increase the number of learning cities in the Unities States; achieving this goal will take an international and national effort to collaborate at all levels of government and administration and cooperate in all ways of bringing families, communities, and societies together for the ultimate purpose of education-and-learning for all.
There are several ways that individuals, groups, and institutions can become involved with LearnLong Institute and The Center on Learning Cities. LearnLong Institute is a 501c3 nonprofit membership organization and educational think-tank which allow those interested to establish annual or lifetime memberships and select the Center on Learning Cities (CLC) as a primary scholarship practice area. Selections will be confirmed on a rolling basis and information about current and future projects for participation will be communicated by the leaders assigned within the Center and across LearnLong Institute for Education and Learning Research (LIFR).
